PLACENTA FAQ
What is the placenta and how can it help me postpartum?
The placenta is a disposable organ attached to the inside of your womb during pregnancy. This incredible organ is actually the only disposable organ that the human body creates and then naturally discards once its purpose is fulfilled. It is also the only organ that is compatible with two sets of blood types and genes. The placenta acts as a barrier, never allowing your blood and baby’s blood to come into contact with one another. The intricate structure of the innerplacenta creates a barrier so that no blood is exchanged. The placenta helps sustain functions that the baby is not yet mature enough to do on its own such as obtaining the needed substances from the mothers blood and filtering out any waste products. Your blood supply carries oxygen, nutrients’ and food to the unborn baby via the umbilical cord inserted into the placenta on the fetal side. The baby’s waste products, such as carbon dioxide is absorbed into the umbilical and passed through the placenta into your bloodstream for your body to dispose of. The placenta is not a waste organ however, it is a facilitator organ. It is constantly renewing the blood circulating through allowing for a clean transfer. The placenta produces hormones necessary to sustain pregnancy and healthy fetal development. The placenta acts as a protective filter, keeping out almost all bacteria. It cannot however, keep out viruses. It does not protect against nicotine, drugs, or alcohol which is why it is so important to remain healthy during pregnancy.
Placenta medicine has been used to support postpartum recovery and chronic illnesses for centuries. Mothers who take placenta pils report increased milk supply, more energy, less bleeding, increased feelings of peace and wellbeing, and a smoother transition into this new phase of life. Studies show that placenta medicine may decrease risk of postpartum depression and low milk supply. Why does it work? It works because your placenta is an amazing powerhouse of hormones and nutrients

How is my placenta prepared?
After your placenta is picked up, our preparation space is thoroghly cleaned and sanatized. This includes walls and floors. A layer of seran wrap is placed over the entire workspace and all tools and utensils are cleaned and sanitized. Placenta is then rinsed, sliced, and placed in dehydrator. Space and utensils are then thoroghly cleaned, sanatized and put back into storage container. Placenta is dehydrated at 165 degrees for 20-24 hours. This guarentees proper & full dehydration according to food safety standards. Once dehydration is complete, placenta is then ground and placed into vegan capsules. Most placentas provide 80 - 230+ capsules depending on size. Remaining tools and utensils are thoroghly cleaned, sanatized and placed back into appropriate storage containers.
